Arthopan is a brand name for naproxen. It is a prescription drug which belongs to the class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is mainly used in the treatment for pain, inflammation, tenderness, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
Arthopan contains naproxen (which is a pain-killer) that works by reversibly inhibiting enzymes (cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 also known as COX-1 and -2) which produces prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is presumed to be responsible for causing pain and inflammation in the body. Inhibition of these enzymes results in decreased synthesis of prostaglandins which provides relief to the patient from pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Arthopan is a prescription drug, hence do not take it without consulting doctor. It can be harmful to the patients to take this medicine without a doctor's advice.
