Arthopan is a brand name for naproxen. It is a prescription drug which belongs to the class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Question almost 6 years ago

How does Arthopan work?

Dr. Chinmaya Bal MBBS , General Physician

Arthopan contains naproxen (which is a pain-killer) that works by reversibly inhibiting enzymes (cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 also known as COX-1 and -2) which produces prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is presumed to be responsible for causing pain and inflammation in the body. Inhibition of these enzymes results in decreased synthesis of prostaglandins which provides relief to the patient from pain and inflammation caused by arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
