Telekast T is a brand name of montelukast and it is available in the form of tablet, powder, and granules. It belongs to the class of medicine called leukotriene receptor antagonist. It is a prescription drug that is used for the preventive (prophylaxis) and maintenance treatment of asthma and to prevent breathing difficulty (bronchospasm) during exercise. It is also used to provide relief from the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
Telekast T works by blocking the action of biologically active compounds (leukotrienes) which are responsible for narrowing and swelling of airways (bronchospasm) in the lungs and also causes allergic symptoms such as sneezing, stuffy, and runny nose. This provides relief to the patient from symptoms of allergic rhinitis and helps to prevent asthmatic attacks.
Take Telekast T once daily or as advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food because food does not affect the absorption of drugs from the stomach. For asthma Telekast T has to be taken preferably in the evening but for prevention of breathing difficulty during exercise, you should take medicine at least 2 hours before the exercise. However, if you taking Telekast T once on daily basis then you do not need to take an extra dose to prevent breathing difficulties before exercise.
