Interaction between Food and Yavir

No, Yavir is not an antibiotic. It is an antiviral drug which is used to treat infections caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) such as genital herpes. It is also used in the treatment of chickenpox and herpes zoster (shingles) which are caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV).
Yavir contains acyclovir. It works by preventing the DNA synthesis and replication of the virus. It interferes with DNA polymerase enzyme which is essential for the virus to synthesize DNA that helps in replicating the virus. In this way Yavir ensures eradication of viral infection from the body.
Yavir should be taken by mouth 1 - 2 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food but it is preferred to take with a meal to avoid stomach upset. The topical cream should be applied gently on the affected area 5 - 6 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. After applying Yavir, gently rub the cream till fully absorbed, then wash your hands. Precautions must be taken in patients with neurological abnormalities, and improper liver or kidney function.
No, Yavir does not affect fertility. Animal studies have shown that Yavir does not impair fertility. Also Yavir induced infertility has not been reported by the patients who are taking Yavir.
Yes, Yavir may cause anemia as well as thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) but it occurs in a few cases only. It is a rare side effect of this drug. If you are experiencing tiredness or shortness of breath or bleeding then discuss it with your doctor without further delay.
