Yes, Spina bifida is a neural tube defect that occurs when the baby's spine and spinal cord do not develop properly. If the baby has this condition then the neural tube doesn't close properly because of which the backbone doesn't form completely. According to research taking Folydol M helps in the prevention of Spina bifida in the unborn fetus.
Folydol M should not be discontinued on your own. Your doctor may want to check your recent levels of folic acid with the help of blood tests. If the reports are satisfactory then your doctor will ask you to discontinue Folydol M.
Long-term oral use of Folic acid can be unsafe as it can cause stomach upset, gas, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
Folydol M should be taken at the same time, whether morning or night. It should be taken with a glass of water, with or without food.
Some of the natural sources of Folate are green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, meat, eggs, yeast, liver, dairy products, beans, peas, seafood, yeast, grains, beef liver, and beef kidney. Many food items are fortified with Folic acid. Folic acid is required for the synthesis of genetic material and red blood cells. Its deficiency can cause megaloblastic anemia. It is also essential for pregnant women before and during the pregnancy. Deficiency of Folic acid during pregnancy can result in premature delivery and babies with the neural tube defects.
