No, Alerkim Should not be stopped or discontinued without doctors advice. You are recommended to always consult a doctor before discontinuing this medicine. Suddenly stopping Alerkim can cause withdrawal symptoms such as fever, joint pain, and feeling of discomfort. To avoid the withdrawal symptoms, the dosage of this drug should be reduced gradually. Alerkim works by suppressing the body's normal immune response to inflammation which is responsible for symptoms such as swelling, redness, and itching. This results in decreased inflammation and provides relief from the symptoms associated with it.
This is because a long-term use of Alerkim can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. Stomach acids help in the absorption of Vitamin B 12, and this drug suppresses stomach acid which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12. Hence patients taking Alerkim for a long time have Vitamin B12 deficiency. To replenish Vitamin B12 in your body your doctor prescribes this vitamin along with this medicine.
