Ziox is a brand name for azithromycin. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medication called macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat a bacterial infection such as throat infection, respiratory tract infections, ear infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It is also sometimes coupled with other antibiotics and medications to effectively treat infections such as Mycobacterium avium complex infection.
Yes, you can take Ziox for a sore throat, if it is caused by bacteria. It's very difficult to distinguish between a sore throat caused due to a viral or bacterial infection. Hence take it only when a doctor has prescribed it to you.
Clinically no any harmful interaction has been reported between Ziox and oral contraceptive pills. However, the interaction between these two can't be completely ignored. Please consult your doctor before taking these two medicines at the same time.
Ziox is not given for the abscess. It is not recommended for skin and soft tissue infection. Generally, a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate is given twice daily. However. it is best to consult your doctor for the right line of treatment for an abscess.
