How does Tufderm work?

Tufderm contains clobetasol which is presumed to work by promoting the induction of inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) in the body. Lipocortins prevents the release of arachidonic acid which causes synthesis and release of certain chemicals such as histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins that causes inflammation. In this way Tufderm prevents the skin inflammation which provides relief to the patient from rash, itching, and redness.

Can Tufderm cause skin discoloration?

However, the exact cause behind skin discoloration is not known but it is more likely to occur if the skin is covered with a dressing after applying this drug. Can Tufderm be used for jock itch?

No, Tufderm alone should not be used for jock itch also known as tinea cruris because it is a fungal infection and Tufderm is not an antifungal agent and it is not effective against fungi. Hence Tufderm should not be used for the treatment of jock itch. For the treatment of jock itch, you can use a combination of Tufderm and antifungal drugs such as miconazole and fluconazole.
