The doctor usually prescribes the two of them together when the symptoms of acidity get severe. However, do not take them together by yourself without consulting a doctor.

Ranicom is not directly used for treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is given if acid secretion increases due to IBS. IBS is managed by a combination of drug therapy like antispasmodic ( to relieve stomach pain), laxatives ( to relieve constipation), and antimotility drugs ( to relieve diarrhea).
Yes, Ranicom is found to increase the uric acid level in blood and cause the gout-like symptom such as pain in the joint, redness, and inflammation of joint. Regular uric acid level monitoring is needed if you are taking this medicine for the longest time.
Taking [medicine] does not directly cause pneumonia. However, in some cases [medicine] may increase the chances of bacteria to grow inside the gut causing bacterial infections such as pneumonia. The bacterial growth in the gut can be caused due to decreased acid secretion in the stomach which allow growth of bacteria in the gut which can move into the lungs through breathing. Please consult your doctor if you are experiencing fever, breathing difficulties and nonstop coughing for more than 2 weeks.
