Interaction between Alcohol and Megaflam M R
Consuming Megaflam M R with alcohol can have many serious effects on your body.
During pain caused due to an injury, the brain releases a chemical known as prostaglandins. This chemical is also often responsible for causing fever, swelling or inflammation. Ibuprofen blocks the synthesis of this chemical and exerts its action.
Megaflam MR is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which is used for the treatment of tenderness, swelling, stiffness, and pain associated with osteoarthritis in which there is a breakdown of the lining of the joints, and rheumatoid arthritis in which there is swelling of the lining of the joints. It is also used for alleviation of the menstrual pain, before and during the menstrual cycle. It is also used to relieve fever and pain associated with a headache, minor aches, sprains, common cold, toothache, and backache. It also shows the antiplatelet effect which means it prevents the formation of blood clots. Megaflam MR is used for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis (a chronic skin disease causing scaling and swelling), gouty arthritis (which develops from the built up of some chemical in the joints) and ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis that affects the spine).
Megaflam MR is available in the form of a tablet, chewable tablet, suspension and drops, and syrup. Prescription Megaflam MR is taken every 4 to 6 hours for arthritis and pain. Adults and children older than 12 years may take non-prescription Megaflam MR every 4 to 6 hours. Children and infants may be given Megaflam MR every 6 to 8 hours. It is important to take Megaflam MR with food or milk so as to prevent stomach upset. If you are taking Megaflam MR every day, remember to take it at the same time. Megaflam MR is also available in combination with other drugs for treating cold and cough. If you have prescribed a combination containing Megaflam MR, do not take any non-prescription drug containing Megaflam MR as it might cause overdosage. Shake the drops and suspensions well before use.
Yes, Megaflam MR can cause bleeding problems, ulcers, and perforation in stomach and intestine. These complications might develop during any phase of the treatment without warning symptoms. The risk may be aggravated for people who consume NSAIDs for a long period of time, who are elderly, who have poor health and who drink alcohol while taking Megaflam MR. It is important that you talk to your doctor if you ever had ulcers or any kind of bleeding disorders. Talk to your doctor immediately if you start developing symptoms like vomiting with blood, bloody stools, heartburn, and stomach pain
Painkillers like Megaflam MR should not be used if there is decreased kidney function as they may reduce the supply of blood to the kidneys. Also, long-term use can also impair the normal kidneys. Therefore, it is important that you talk to your doctor in case you have reduced kidney function. You should use Megaflam MR exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
