Yes, Biosone P may cause gray baby syndorme in newborn infants especially in premature baby, if this drug is given in higher doses. Gray baby syndrome is a rare side effect that occurs due to accumulation of the chloramphenicol in the newborn infant. The cause of gray baby syndrome is that the newborn baby lacks the some liver enzymes which are necessary to metabolize and removes this drug from the body. The accumulation of the chloramphenicol in the body leads to toxicity which causes development of symptoms such as vomiting, gray color of the skin, blue discoloration of lips and skin. To avoid gray baby syndrome the doses of Biosone P must be lowered and adjusted as per the need.
Rarely, Biosone P causes nausea and vomiting. It is a known side effect of this drug. For relief from nausea and vomiting try to take lime water, avoid eating spicy food even if it persists or becomes severe then discuss with your doctor.
No, Biosone P does not cover Enterococcus faecalis. They are generally found to be resistant to Biosone P. However antibiotic sensitivity test is recommended to confirm its resistance.
Yes, Biosone P can treat gonorrhea which is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Usually, other antibiotics are preferred to treat gonorrhea due to decreased side effects and greater efficacy along with faster recovery.
