Ranibid belong to a group of medication called a histamine antagonist or H2- receptor blocker. It works by blocking the histamine, which prevents the cells from excessive production of acids in the stomach. Hence, this medicine is useful in protecting the stomach lining and preventing from hyperacidity.
Ranibid is not directly used for treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is given if acid secretion increases due to IBS. IBS is managed by a combination of drug therapy like antispasmodic ( to relieve stomach pain), laxatives ( to relieve constipation), and antimotility drugs ( to relieve diarrhea).
Ranibid can be taken at any time of day, but it is best to take this medicine in the morning before breakfast. However, you are recommended to follow your doctor's instructions.
