No, Pepdin is not an antacid. It belongs to the group of medicine called H2- receptor blocker which blocks the excess acid secretion in the stomach while antacid only neutralized the stomach acid by coating the stomach.
Pepdin contain famotidine. It works blocking certain receptors in the stomach (H2 receptors) which prevents the excessive secretion of stomach acid from gastric parietal cells. Hence in this way, Pepdin promotes healing of stomach ulcer and provides relief in acid reflux and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Yes, Pepdin may cause constipation in patients who are taking this drug but the frequency of incident is not known. However, if you are experiencing severe constipation after taking this drug then inform your doctor and take precautionary methods such as eating fibrous foods to avoid constipation.
Pepdin is a brand name of famotidine. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drug called antihistamine (H2 receptor blocker). It inhibits the acid production in the stomach. It is used to treat a number of stomach problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.
Take Pepdin 1-2 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. It has to be taken 15 - 60 minute before the meal. Do not take more than 2 tablets in a day unless recommended by the doctor.
