Midfast is a brand name of midazolam and it is available in the form of a tablet, injection, and nasal spray. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as the benzodiazepine (Sedatives and Hypnotics). It is used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia. It is also used to relieve anxiety, and to sedate patients in ICU (intensive care unit) as well as to sedate patients before diagnostic and medical procedures such as endoscopy.
No Midfast alone does not help with pain but it is given along with pain-killer drugs such as fetanyl to help with pain during the medical procedure. Midfast induces conscious sedation which allows the patient to undergo a medical procedure by inducing decreased levels of consciousness that does not require intubation.
Yes, Midfast may cause hiccups. It is a rare side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause behind hiccups is not known but it is presumed that it occurs because Midfast stimulates the involuntary diaphragm contractions or by influencing the supraspinal hiccup center present in the brainstem. If you are experiencing excessive hiccups after taking this drug then discuss it with your doctor.
No, Midfast does not cause hair loss (alopecia). It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug. If you are experiencing hair loss after taking this drug then it might be due to some other reason.
Midfast must be taken under the medical supervision only. Precautions must be taken in patients with respiratory disorders, and improper kidney or liver function.
