Medzol is a brand name of midazolam and it is available in the form of a tablet, injection, and nasal spray. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as the benzodiazepine (Sedatives and Hypnotics). It is used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia. It is also used to relieve anxiety, and to sedate patients in ICU (intensive care unit) as well as to sedate patients before diagnostic and medical procedures such as endoscopy.
Medzol contains midazolam that works by increasing the activity of a chemical messenger GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) which suppresses the excessive activity of nerve cells in the brain and induces sedation.
No Medzol alone does not help with pain but it is given along with pain-killer drugs such as fetanyl to help with pain during the medical procedure. Medzol induces conscious sedation which allows the patient to undergo a medical procedure by inducing decreased levels of consciousness that does not require intubation.
Medzol must be taken under the medical supervision only. Precautions must be taken in patients with respiratory disorders, and improper kidney or liver function.
