Metcon contains metoclopramide which is an antiemetic agent that prevents from nausea and vomiting by inhibiting certain chemical messengers (neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin) in the brain. In diabetic gastroparesis, Metcon works by increasing gastrointestinal motility and fasting the gastric emptying process. In gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Metcon works by increasing lower esophageal sphincter (LES) tone which prevents the gastric contents to reach food pipe that causes symptoms associated with GERD.
Yes, Metcon might cause a headache. It is a rare side effect of this drug. However, the exact cause of a headache is still unknown. If you experience a severe headache after taking this drug, take a mild painkiller, apply balm and take rest even after this if the pain does not subside then discuss with your doctor without any further delay.
Yes, Metcon may cause drowsiness in a few cases only. It is a rare side effect of this medicine. Inhibition of chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) in the brain might be responsible for causing drowsiness. Do not drive any vehicle or operate heavy machinery after taking this drug to avoid mishappening.
