Medanin is a brand name of medroxyprogesterone and it comes in the form of tablet and injection. It belongs to the class of drug known as progestins. It is a prescription drug that is used for the treatment of menorrhagia (abnormally heavy bleeding), secondary amenorrhoea (absence of periods over the duration of three months or more), and endometrial hyperplasia (overgrown lining of the uterus). It is also used for contraception (a method of birth control) and off-label for the treatment of paraphilia (abnormal sexual behavior).
Usually, Medanin is given for short-term treatment of amenorrhea and menorrhagia which may vary from case to case basis depending on the condition of the patient. For contraception, one injection of Medanin is given over the duration of 3 months. Total 4 injections are given throughout the year for effective contraception. The fertility is restored normally after 10 months following the last injection of this drug on an average basis.
No, Medanin does not protect you from STDs (sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV AIDS). However, it is presumed that it might help in preventing pelvic inflammatory disease by causing thickening of cervical mucus and preventing the penetration of STDs microorganisms into the body from the reproductive system. You are advised to use a barrier method of contraception such as male condom and female condom for protection from STDs.
Medanin contains medroxyprogesterone which is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone (progesterone) that works by restoring the normal levels of this hormone in the body which helps in regulating the normal menstrual cycle. Incase of contraception, it works by preventing ovulation (a process by which egg matures and released by the ovaries). In this way Medanin acts as a contraceptive and helps in menorrhagia as well as secondary amenorrhoea.
Yes, Medanin causes tiredness but this occurs only in a few cases. It is a known side effect of this drug. If you experience tiredness after taking this drug, then try to take some rest even after that if you feel excessive tiredness then do discuss it with your doctor.
