Flucole Information

Flucole is a commercial drug that is prescribed in the form of Tablet. Fungal Infections, Candidal Infection, Urinary Tract Infection are some of its major therapeutic uses. Other than this, Flucole has some other therapeutic uses, which have been discussed ahead.

On the contrary, oral administration of Flucole has been reported to cause stomach upset such as indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhea, and nausea. How does Flucole work?

Flucole inhibit the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14- demethylase and thus block ergosterol synthesis leading to membrane abnormalities in the fungus. It kills the fungus by destroying its cell membrane.

No, Usually Flucole does not cause nephrotoxicity. But as per FDA reports patients above 65 years have exhibited acute renal failure hence elderly patients should take Flucole only when prescribed. However, the exact mechanism of renal failure associated with this drug is not yet known.
