Yes, Esium can cause diarrhea, which may be the sign of a new infection. If you experience diarrhea after consuming this medicine, inform your doctor without any further delay.
Esium works by blocking the action of an enzyme (H+/K+ATPase) in the cells (parietal) of the stomach which is responsible for acid production in the stomach. Due to blockage of this enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this helps to relieve the stomach from acidity, heartburn, GERD, stomach ulcer and other acidity related stomach problem.
Esium should be taken 1 hour before the meal because the presence of food can affect the absorption of this drug from the stomach and its therapeutic benefit. Preferably it should be taken once a day in the morning before breakfast. However, some patient may need twice a day, in this case, 1 tablet should be taken in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening before the meal as directed by the doctor. Please consult your doctor regarding the exact dosage regimen of medicine and follow his/her instruction.
Discontinuation of Esium on your own can cause rebound effects. So, it advisable to take this drug as directed by the doctor and do not discontinue/stop medicine on your own. Please inform the doctor before stopping/discontinuing this drug on your own.
Yes, Esium and omeprazole is the same. Both are proton pump inhibitors and treat similar condition.
