Azerva E is a brand name of atorvastatin which belongs to the class of drugs known as statins (dyslipidemic agents). It is a prescription drug that is used for the treatment of mixed dyslipidemia (high levels of lipids in the blood), hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels), and hypertriglyceridemia.
It has been reported to cause weight gain but only in a few cases, this occurs very rarely. However, the exact cause behind this is unknown. if you notice any unusual weight gain after taking this drug. Then you are recommended to discuss it with your doctor.
Azerva E works by inhibiting an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) which is responsible for cholesterol synthesis in our body, its inhibition results in increased levels of HDL (good cholesterol) and decreased levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) which lowers the risk of developing heart disease and helps in preventing strokes
