Diplomax contains clobetasol which is presumed to work by promoting the induction of inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) in the body. In this way Diplomax prevents the skin inflammation which provides relief to the patient from rash, itching, and redness.

However, the exact cause behind skin discoloration is not known but it is more likely to occur if the skin is covered with a dressing after applying this drug.
