Can Diplomax be used for ringworm?

Dr. B. K. Agrawal MBBS, MD , Cardiology, General Physician, Internal Medicine

No, Diplomax alone should not be used for ringworm because it is a fungal infection of the skin caused by fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum and Epidermophyton floccosum and Diplomax is not an antifungal agent and it is not effective against fungi. Question almost 6 years ago

How does Diplomax work?

Dr. Haleema Yezdani MBBS , General Physician

Diplomax contains clobetasol which is presumed to work by promoting the induction of inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) in the body. Lipocortins prevents the release of arachidonic acid which causes synthesis and release of certain chemicals such as histamine, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins that causes inflammation. In this way Diplomax prevents the skin inflammation which provides relief to the patient from rash, itching, and redness.

Can Diplomax cause skin discoloration?

Dr. Madhur Anand MBBS, MS , General Surgery

However, the exact cause behind skin discoloration is not known but it is more likely to occur if the skin is covered with a dressing after applying this drug. So you are advised to not cover your skin with a dressing after applying this drug.
