Ursokem belongs to the class of compounds called bile acids and salts. Ursodiol is a bile acid which is used for the management of gallstones and primary liver diseases. It also prevents the formation of gallstones in people who are rapidly losing weight.

Depending upon the size and number of gallstones you doctor will take a decision whether gallbladder should be removed or not. Ursokem is a prescription drug and not much research has been done in geriatric patients (old age people). It has been found effective in dissolving small stones in the gallbladder and depending on the condition the doctor may recommend this drug to 65 years and above.
