Flamek is a brand name of deflazacort. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drugs called steroids (corticosteroid). It is used for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy which is a progressive disease in which the muscles do not function properly in adults and in children 5 years of age and older.

How to take Flamek?

Flamek comes as a tablet and a suspension (liquid) and it should be taken by mouth once daily or as advised by your doctor. Precautions must be taken in patients with improper liver or kidney function, hypertension and diabetes. Do no take deflazacort with grapefruit juice (chakotra). Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels of this medicine which can lead to very unpleasant side effects.
