What is Zintalika?

Zintalika is a brand name of disodium Hydrogen Citrate and it comes in liquid dosage form (syrup). It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drugs known as alkalinizing agents. It is used for the treatment of gout (a type of arthritis that occurs due to the formation and deposition of uric acid crystals in the joints). It is also used for the prevention of nephrolithiasis (kidney stones) and treatment of acidosis (decrease in blood pH levels). Sometimes it is used along with antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections.

Yes, Zintalika causes difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea) in some cases but this occurs very rarely. It is a known side effect of this drug. This is caused by the increased concentrations of sodium bicarbonate ions in blood and increased pH levels this leads to decrease in breathing rate (respiratory rate). If you are experiencing excessive difficulty in breathing then discuss it with your doctor without any further delay.
