Yes, Troyset is usually administered before and after surgery for treating post-anesthesia shivering (PAS) and nausea. PAS is a condition in which tremors of head, neck, trunk, shoulder, and extremities. It greatly reduces the quality of life of a patient since it causes discomfort and increases pain. It disturbs surgical care and increases the stress on cardiopulmonary functions. Hence as a precautionary measure, this medicine is administered to prevent unpleasant anesthetic effects.
Troyset belongs to a class of compounds known as 5 -HT3 receptor antagonists. It blocks the action of serotonin completely at the 5-HT3 receptor sites present in our brain (vomiting centre) which provides relief to the patient from nausea and vomiting.
