Topcid is a commercial drug that is prescribed in the form of Tablet. It is primarily used for the treatment of Peptic Ulcer. Other than this, Topcid has some other therapeutic uses, which have been discussed ahead.
The optimal dosage of Topcid is largely dependent on the individual's body weight, medical history, gender and age. Dosage also depends on the route of administration and your chief complaint for which the drug is prescribed. Refer to the dosage section for a detailed discussion.

Yes, Topcid is used to treat gastritis. It helps by preventing the excess acid secretion in the stomach and relieve the gastritis symptoms like stomach pain, stomach inflammation, and acid reflux.
No, Topcid is not an antacid. It belongs to the group of medicine called H2- receptor blocker which blocks the excess acid secretion in the stomach while antacid only neutralized the stomach acid by coating the stomach.
Avoid smoking when you are taking Topcid. As per clinical studies, the effectiveness of Topcid is lower in smokers as compared to non-smokers. Moreover, smoking may increase the acid secretion which can cause stomach problem.
Take Topcid 1-2 times in a day or as advised by your doctor. It has to be taken 15 - 60 minute before the meal. Do not take more than 2 tablets in a day unless recommended by the doctor.
Topcid contain famotidine. It works blocking certain receptors in the stomach (H2 receptors) which prevents the excessive secretion of stomach acid from gastric parietal cells. Hence in this way, Topcid promotes healing of stomach ulcer and provides relief in acid reflux and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
