Rivol is a brand name of acyclovir and it comes in different dosage forms such as a tablet, injection, and topical cream. It belongs to the class of drug known as antivirals. It is a prescription drug that is used in the treatment of infections caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) such as genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores). It is also used in the treatment of chickenpox and herpes zoster (shingles) which are caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV).
No, Rivol does not cause low blood pressure (hypotension). It has not been reported by the patients who are taking this drug. If you are experiencing lightheadedness or blurry vision which are symptoms of low blood pressure after taking this drug then try to sit down and rest for a while till restored normal blood pressure.
Yes, Rivol might cause hair loss (alopecia) but it occurs very rarely. This problem goes away after discontinuation of this drug. For partial hair loss, you are advised to use hair tonic and discuss with the doctor for best possible treatment to hair loss.
Rivol contains acyclovir. It works by preventing the DNA synthesis and replication of the virus. It interferes with DNA polymerase enzyme which is essential for the virus to synthesize DNA that helps in replicating the virus. In this way Rivol ensures eradication of viral infection from the body.
Rarely, Rivol causes a headache. It is an uncommon side effect of this medicine. If you experience a severe headache after taking this drug, take a mild painkiller, apply balms and take rest, even if the pain does not subside then discuss it with your doctor.
