Rabot DC is a brand name for rabeprazole. It belongs to a class of medications known as proton pump inhibitors. It is available in the form of a tablet, capsule, and injection. Rabot DC is used to alleviate the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD). GERD is a condition in which acid back-flows from the stomach to the esophagus (the tube which connects the stomach with throat) causing heartburn and injury to the esophagus. Rabot DC is used to prevent this damage. Rabot DC is also used to treat conditions like Zollinger Ellison syndrome (excessive acid is produced by the stomach). It is used for the treatment of ulcers (sores in the lining of stomach and intestine) and also used in combination with other antibiotics (such as amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to manage H.pylori infection.
No, Rabot DC is not an antibiotic. It belongs to the group of medications called proton pump inhibitor which blocks the excessive acid secretion in the stomach while antibiotics are the medicine that prevents and treats the infection caused by bacteria.
This is because a long-term use of Rabot DC can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. Stomach acids help in the absorption of Vitamin B 12, and this drug suppresses stomach acid which is required for the absorption of vitamin B12. Hence patients taking [medicine] for a long time have Vitamin B12 deficiency. To replenish Vitamin B12 in your body your doctor prescribes this vitamin along with this medicine.
Rarely, Rabot DC causes hair loss. This is a reversible side effect of Rabot DC, the problem goes away after discontinuation of this drug. For partial hair loss, you are advised to use hair tonic and discuss with your doctor about a better treatment option for hair loss.
Rarely Rabot DC causes stomach cancer. There has been no direct relationship to establish the fact. However, stomach cancer and other cancers may develop because of recurring acid reflux for a long time for example 7 - 8 years or more. If you feel any symptoms associated with cancer such as consistent low-grade fever, weight loss due to unexplained reasons, and pain in the abdomen, do not hesitate to get it diagnosed by a physician.
