Indications:

• Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL):
  Often used as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen.
• Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (off-label):
  In select cases, to inhibit tumor growth in asparagine-dependent cancers.

L-Asgen hydrolyzes the amino acid asparagine into aspartic acid and ammonia. Normal cells can synthesize asparagine; however, leukemia cells lack this ability. By depleting extracellular asparagine, L-Asgen effectively starves leukemia cells, leading to their apoptosis.

Common side effects: Nausea and vomiting, Fatigue, Abdominal pain, Elevated liver enzymes.

Serious side effects: Hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis), Pancreatitis, Hyperglycemia, Coagulopathy (e.g., thrombosis, bleeding), Hepatotoxicity.

Monitoring Requirements: Liver function tests, Blood glucose levels, Coagulation parameters (e.g., PT, INR, fibrinogen levels), Regular observation for signs of hypersensitivity reactions.

​Native:Intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV): 6,000 IU/m² three times weekly.

Pegylated: IM or IV: 2,500 IU/m² every 2 weeks.
