Fentinol is mainly used in the prophylactic management of all types of seizures, also protect against the development of focal seizure. It is also used in the treatment of status epilepticus (a seizure involving repeated convulsions upto 5 mins) after failed treatment using benzodiazepine due to slow onset of action. It is also given during neurosurgeries to prevent from seizures during operations. Some physicians consider Fentinol as a second-line treatment for treating trigeminal neuralgia (chronic facial pain).
Yes, Fentinol is teratogenic (causes birth defects). As per clinical studies Fentinol can cause congenital abnormalities like "fetal hydantoin syndrome" when taken during pregnancy. Avoid taking Fentinol with paracetamol since this reduces the effectiveness of paracetamol.
