Emeton Information

Emeton, a prescription drug, is manufactured in various forms such as Injection, Tablet, Syrup. Nausea and Vomiting are some of its major therapeutic uses.

The optimal dosage of Emeton is largely dependent on the individual's body weight, medical history, gender and age. Besides the medical condition it is advised for, the route of administration also plays an important role in determining the correct drug dosage. Besides the aforementioned side effects, there are other adverse effects of Emeton as well, which are listed below. Normally, these side effects of Emeton are not long lasting and go away when the treatment is finished. However, if these continue for a longer time, consult your doctor right away.

Is Emeton safe for children?

Yes, Emeton is safe to be used in children from 6 months to 12 years of age. Apart from preventing nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy and radiation, Emeton can be used in this population group for managing acute gastritis. Acute gastritis presents itself as a self-limited infection with vomiting leading to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Always check with a child specialist and do not administer this drug yourself.

How to take Emeton?

Emeton is available in form of tablet, syrup, and injection. It should be taken as per your doctor's instructions. Ideally, Emeton has to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. The initial dose is usually taken half an hour before chemotherapy, 1 to 2 hours before radiation therapy and 1 hour before a surgery. Additional doses can be suggested by the doctor as per the individual requirements.

Yes, Emeton is usually administered before and after surgery for treating post-anesthesia shivering (PAS) and nausea. PAS is a condition in which tremors of head, neck, trunk, shoulder, and extremities. It greatly reduces the quality of life of a patient since it causes discomfort and increases pain. It disturbs surgical care and increases the stress on cardiopulmonary functions. Hence as a precautionary measure, this medicine is administered to prevent unpleasant anesthetic effects.

Does Emeton cause constipation?

Yes, Emeton can cause constipation. Some of the other side effects are a headache and dizziness. Constipation is a debilitating disorder which can be prevented by drinking a lot of water, eating more of fiber, exercising more, taking herbal laxatives, taking probiotic food, and avoiding dairy products.
