Avastimab is a monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of various cancers. It works by inhibiting angiogenesis, the process by which tumors develop new blood vessels to sustain their growth. Avastimab specifically binds to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a protein that promotes the formation of new blood vessels. By neutralizing VEGF, Avastimab starves tumors of their blood supply, inhibiting growth and progression. 

Indications:

• Colorectal Cancer: Advanced or metastatic stages, often in combination with chemotherapy.
• Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Metastatic cases, in combination with chemotherapy.
• Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC): Advanced stages, often combined with interferon alfa.
• Cervical Cancer: Persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cases.
• Glioblastoma: As a second-line treatment.
• Ovarian Cancer: Platinum-resistant and recurrent forms.

Side Effects: Hypertension (high blood pressure), Fatigue, Nausea and vomiting, Nosebleeds, Proteinuria (protein in the urine), 

Severe side effects: Gastrointestinal perforations, Hemorrhage, Arterial thromboembolism, Nephrotic syndrome.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Avastimab or its components
• Active infections or significant recent surgical procedures
• Uncontrolled hypertension

Precautions

• Pregnancy and Lactation: Avastimab may harm the fetus; effective contraception is advised during and after treatment.
• Wound Healing: Therapy should be delayed in patients undergoing major surgery.
• Monitoring: Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and signs of bleeding is essential.

Formulation: Adcimab is available as an intravenous infusion.

Typical Dosing: Colorectal Cancer: 5-10 mg/kg every 2 weeks.

NSCLC: 15 mg/kg every 3 weeks.

Storage and Handling

• Store Avastimab vials at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F).
• Do not freeze or shake the vials.
