Yes, Atelol may cause drowsiness (sleepiness). It is a common side effect of this drug. If you experience drowsiness after taking this drug, then you are advised not to drive any vehicle or operate any machinery to avoid accidental injury.
Atelol contains atenolol which is presumed to work through multiple mechanisms. It reduces blood pressure and slows down the fast heartbeat by blocking the influx of calcium ions and binding to certain receptors (beta-adrenoceptors) in the smooth muscles of heart which prevent the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline that also contributes in decreasing myocardial (heart) oxygen demand.
Atelol is a brand name of atenolol and it is available in the form of a tablet. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drug known as beta-blockers (beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenoreceptor blocking agent). It is used for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina (chest pain) and acute myocardial infarction.
