Anasted is a medication used in the treatment of breast cancer, specifically for postmenopausal women. It is an aromatase inhibitor, which works by lowering estrogen levels in the body to help prevent the growth of certain types of breast cancer.
Anasted tablets are primarily used for:
Hormone Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer
Anasted is indicated as a first-line treatment for postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer. It helps to reduce the recurrence of breast cancer after surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
Adjuvant Therapy
It is used as adjuvant therapy to prevent the recurrence of early-stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
Neoadjuvant Therapy
In some cases, Anastrozole may be used before surgery to shrink tumors.
Anasted works by inhibiting aromatase, an enzyme responsible for converting androgens into estrogens. Since estrogen can promote the growth of hormone-sensitive breast cancer, reducing its levels slows or stops the growth of these cancers.
