Baritroz Information

Baritroz, containing the active ingredient Letrozole, is a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It works by decreasing estrogen levels, which helps slow or reverse the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors.

Uses

  • Adjuvant Treatment of Breast Cancer: Early-stage hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

  • Extended Adjuvant Treatment: After standard tamoxifen therapy.

  • Advanced Breast Cancer: First-line treatment for hormone receptor-positive or unknown metastatic breast cancer.

Mechanism of Action

Letrozole inhibits the enzyme aromatase, responsible for converting androgens into estrogens. By lowering estrogen levels, it helps reduce the growth of estrogen-dependent cancer cells.

Dosage and Administration

  • Standard Dosage: 2.5 mg orally once daily, with or without food.

  • Treatment duration depends on the individual’s response and clinical condition, often continuing until disease progression.

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Hot flashes

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea

  • Increased sweating

  • Joint pain or stiffness

Serious side effects:

  • Osteoporosis

  • Bone fractures

  • Elevated cholesterol levels

Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.

  • Regular monitoring of bone mineral density is recommended.

  • Not recommended for premenopausal women or during pregnancy.

Onset and Duration of Action

  • Onset: Letrozole begins to lower estrogen levels within hours but clinical benefits may take weeks to become evident.

  • Duration: Therapeutic effects last as long as the medication is taken continuously.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
