Yes, Monacef can treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (infection of the urinary system caused by bacteria Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae). It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies.
Yes Monacef can be taken with diphenhydramine. Diphenhydramine does not appear to interfere with the efficacy of Monacef. Hence, it is alright to take them together. However, if you feel any discomfort after taking this drug do not hesitate to inform your doctor.
Yes, Monacef might be used to treat sinusitis (Inflammation of cavities situated around the nasal passages) caused by bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae). However, because of its poor activity against these bacteria Monacef is not recommended usually for the treatment of sinus infection (sinusitis).
