    How does Ceff work?

Dr. Manoj Meena MBBS , General Physician

Ceff contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Ceff is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

However, because of its poor activity against these bacteria Ceff is not recommended usually for the treatment of sinus infection (sinusitis).
