Pearly white teeth aren’t the only thing that beautifies your smile, your lips are as important. Unfortunately, not everybody is gifted with soft and supple lips and it takes a lot of effort to maintain that pink blush let alone making your lips look lush or attractive. Lips are the only part of our skin that does not have the pigment melanin and pores. Therefore they require more hydration and nourishing. If you too are troubled with chapped and dry lips and are looking for easy ways to make them look healthy, then you are in the right place.
Following are the way to improve the health of your lips and get those soft pink lips of your dreams:
Drink Plenty of Water everyday
Since a major part of the human body is made of water, it needs optimum hydration throughout the day to maintain everyday functions and when it doesn't get it, it rebels. This revolt takes the form of fatigue, muscle cramps and chapped lips. Are you drinking plenty of water in a day? if not, start by taking. 8 to 10 glasses of water per day, the recommended quantity for almost everyone. This will not only improve the natural tone of your lips but also keeps them from being dehydrated and chapped.
If you are someone who forgets drinking water or just don’t like to drink plain ol’ water, make a schedule and break up your water intake throughout the day. You can follow the below- mentioned routine to increase your total water intake:
- Drink a glass of water early in the morning (Read more: Benefits of drinking water in the morning)
- Before each meal, drink at least one glass of water
- Keep a water bottle with you at all times
- Put reminders on your phone
- Add flavour to water to make it more palatable
- Consume juicy fruits
Avoid Biting and Licking your lips
It might be tough to follow. But it is also the most important rule to get soft and supple lips quickly. Stop licking your lips! The saliva only provides relief for a short time and will quickly evaporate, making your lips even more dry and dehydrated than before. Similarly, chewing or biting lips can cause damage, making them look cracked and unpleasing.
Try instructing yourself not to lick lips and not to bite them or ask a friend to stop you every time you subconsciously start chewing on your lips.
Have a Lip Balm with SPF
Did you ever get sunburn on your lips? If no, then you are one of the luckiest people in the world. It's both hurting and repulsive.
Imagine the worst pain you have ever had on your lips, multiply that by ten, it is worse than that.
As if the pain was not enough. Sunburnt lips not only look dry and dehydrated they also turn chapped and pigmented. So, it is best to be safe before you are sorry and avoid going out in the sun when you can. Alternatively, choose a lip balm with “Sun Protection Factor” (SPF), yes they also come with SPF. This will avert the destructive sun's UV rays and protect your lips, keeping them soft and supple.

Use vitamin E
Vitamin E is not only good for your skin, but it also minimizes the loss of hydration and sensitivity of your lips. Regular use of vitamin E adds that extra gloss to your lips that makes them look naturally shiny and healthy. It patches up cracked lips. And is as easy as opening a vitamin capsule and applying it over your lips. If you are unsure about using vitamin E directly on your lips, you can replace it with a natural oil enriched with this vitamin such as almond oil. Alternatively, make yourself a lip mask with mashed avocadoes and honey. While avocadoes are one of the richest sources of vitamin E, honey just adds to its benefits by healing your chewed off lips and locking in moisture, making them look fuller and softer.
