Ulcidin is a brand name of ranitidine. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of drug called antihistamine (H2 receptor blocker). It prevents excessive acid production in the stomach. It is used to treat a number of diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.
Taking [medicine] does not directly cause pneumonia. However, in some cases [medicine] may increase the chances of bacteria to grow inside the gut causing bacterial infections such as pneumonia. The bacterial growth in the gut can be caused due to decreased acid secretion in the stomach which allow growth of bacteria in the gut which can move into the lungs through breathing. Please consult your doctor if you are experiencing fever, breathing difficulties and nonstop coughing for more than 2 weeks.
Avoid smoking while you are taking Ulcidin. As per clinical studies, the effectiveness of Ulcidin is found to be lesser in smokers as compared to non-smokers. Moreover, smoking may increase the acid secretions which can cause stomach problems. Please discuss with your doctor to know more.
