Yes, Taximax is used to treat meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitides. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies.
Take Taximax as long as your doctor has prescribed you to take it depending upon the severity of the infection. Do not take this medicine longer than prescribed to avoid bacterial resistance.
Taximax contains cefotaxime which belongs to the class of drugs known as cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which covers a wide range of bacteria which are generally found to be resistant to penicillin.
Taximax is bactericidal that means it kills the bacteria. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). In the absence of a cell wall, the bacteria die.
