Renicol H is a brand name of chloramphenicol and it comes in the various dosage forms such as an oral tablet, capsule, syrup, and eye drops. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medications called amphenicols. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which is active against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is mainly used in the treatment of psittacosis also known as parrot fever, rickettsial infection, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia, and also sometimes in the management of typhoid fever.
Yes, Renicol H has been reported to cause fever and chills but this occurs in a few cases. If you are experiencing fever after taking this drug then try taking antipyretics (drugs that reduces fever, such as paracetamol) if the fever relapses again then discuss it with your doctor.
Renicol H contains chloramphenicol which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis in bacteria which needs to survive. In the absence of protein, the bacterial growth is stunned and slowed. It can also kill the bacteria in higher doses. Renicol H is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Salmonella species, Rickettsia species, Neisseria meningitidis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and Staphylococcus pneumoniae.
Yes, Renicol H can treat gonorrhea which is a sexually transmitted infection caused by bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Usually, other antibiotics are preferred to treat gonorrhea due to decreased side effects and greater efficacy along with faster recovery.
No, Renicol H does not cover Enterococcus faecalis. They are generally found to be resistant to Renicol H. However antibiotic sensitivity test is recommended to confirm its resistance.
