Pantagard works by blocking the action of the enzyme in the wall of a stomach which is responsible for acid production in the stomach. By blocking the enzyme, the production of acid is decreased, and this helps to relieve the stomach from acidity, heartburn, GERD, stomach ulcer and other acidity related stomach problem.
Pantagard is a prescription drug so do not take it without consulting a doctor. It can be harmful to people to take this medicine without a doctor's advice.
Pantagard is a brand name of pantoprazole. It is a prescription medicine that belongs to the class of drug called proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It is mainly used for the short-term treatment of peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GRED), Zollinger Ellison syndrome and other acidity related stomach problems. It is also used for the treatment of duodenal ulcer and heartburn.
This is because long-term use of Pantagard can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. Stomach acids help in the absorption of Vitamin B 12, and this drug suppresses stomach acids which are required for the absorption of vitamin B12. Hence patients taking [medicine] for a long time have Vitamin B12 deficiency. To replenish Vitamin B12 in your body your doctor prescribes this vitamin along with this medicine.
