Yes, Ocuchlor might cause aplastic anemia which is a type of anemia in which the body is not able to make new red blood cells. Ocuchlor induces aplastic anemia by suppressing the red bone marrow which produces new red blood cells. However, it is reversible and the red blood cells production by red bone marrow is restored after discontinuation of this drug.
Rarely, Ocuchlor causes nausea and vomiting. It is a known side effect of this drug. For relief from nausea and vomiting try to take lime water, avoid eating spicy food even if it persists or becomes severe then discuss with your doctor.
Discontinuing Ocuchlor on your own can increase the chances of bacterial resistance and infection relapse. It is recommended that you always consult your doctor if you have decided to discontinue this medicine.
No, Ocuchlor does not cover Enterococcus faecalis. They are generally found to be resistant to Ocuchlor. However antibiotic sensitivity test is recommended to confirm its resistance.
Ocuchlor contains chloramphenicol which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
