Frequently asked Questions about Mucaryl

Question almost 6 years ago

How does Mucaryl work?

Dr. Abhijit MBBS , General Physician

Mucaryl contains acetylcysteine which works as an antidote in case of paracetamol overdose. It is presumed that acetylcysteine reduces the extent of liver damage caused by the toxic levels of paracetamol. It protects the liver by maintaining or restoring the glutathione levels which is an antioxidant also by detoxifying paracetamol metabolite in our body. For excessive mucus (phlegm) in respiratory diseases, Mucaryl works as a mucolytic agent which softens the mucus and reduces its thickness that helps in clearing the air passage. thus providing relief to the patient from excessive mucus.
