Usually, Gutwin is given for short-term treatment 2 -14 days which might vary depending on the patient's medical condition. Take Gutwin as directed by your doctor to ensure complete eradication of infection. Do not take this medicine longer than prescribed duration to avoid bacterial resistance.
Gutwin is a brand name of rifaximin and it comes in the form of tablet and syrup. It is a prescription drug and a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is used in the prevention of travelers’ diarrhea (TD) caused by bacteria Escherichia coli and to reduce the risk of hepatic encephalopathy (a brain disorder that causes decline in functioning of the brain due to accumulation of ammonia in which results from the liver damage) along with lactulose. It is also used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).
Yes, Gutwin can be taken with amoxicillin. No clinically significant drug interaction has been reported between them. However, if you feel any discomfort after taking this drug along with amoxicillin then do not hesitate to inform your doctor.
Gutwin in combination with other antibiotics might be used to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) but it is generally not used and not approved for the treatment of the infection caused by H. pylori.
