Folson is recommended during pregnancy because it is a very essential supplement which prevents the incidences such as neural tube defects in the unborn baby.
Long-term use of Folson in doses 800 to 1200 micrograms can increase the risk of heart diseases, lung, and prostate cancer.
Folson deficiency can be treated by taking 250 micrograms to 1 milligram of the drug. For pregnant women, the recommended dosage is 400 micrograms per day from supplements or fortified food. You are urged to follow doctors instructions as the recommended dosage is always suggested by a physician after analyzing the deficiency in the body with the help of current blood reports.
Folson should not be discontinued on your own. Your doctor may want to check your recent levels of folic acid with the help of blood tests. If the reports are satisfactory then your doctor will ask you to discontinue Folson.
In rare instances, severe allergic reaction to Folson has been reported such as hives, breathlessness, and difficulty in swallowing.
