Ceftriaxone is a brand name for ceftriaxone. It is a prescription drug that belongs to the class of medication called cephalosporins. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic, used for treating bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, gonorrhea, respiratory, ear, throat, and urinary tract infection.
Do not self-administer Ceftriaxone. It comes in the form of injection and preferably taken 1 - 2 times in a day (Intravenously or Intramuscularly). Take this medicine in the required quantity and duration as prescribed by your doctor. Discontinuing the a in between may promote resistant bacteria which result in a relapse of the infection. You are recommended to complete the 7 - 14 days course even after getting symptomatic relief. In case you feel any discomfort such as breathing difficulties and skin reactions while taking this medicine please inform your doctor immediately.
Rarely Ceftriaxone can cause neurotoxicity. It is a reversible side effect of this drug, the symptoms caused due to drug-induced neurotoxicity often disappear after this drug is stopped.
