Aravind Eye Hospitals is a chain of eye hospitals that was founded by Dr Govindappa Venkataswamy in Madurai, Tamil Nadu in 1976. After retiring at the age of 58, Dr Venkataswamy established the GOVEL Trust. Aravind Eye Hospitals was founded under this trust.
The chain runs 14 eye hospitals, 6 outpatient centers, and 100 primary eye care centers, all located in South India. Some of the locations where the chain has branches includes Chennai, Coimbatore, Coimbatore City Centre, Dindigul, Kovilpatti, Pondicherry, Salem, Theni, Tirunelveli, Tirupati, Tirupur, Tuticorin, and Udumalpet.
Aravind treats a large number of patients each year and is known to provide affordable care. The chain claims that it provides either free or highly subsidised treatment to half of its patients.

It accepts policies from various insurance companies, and is on the panel of state and central government organisations, private companies, and works with many Third Party Administrators (TPAs).
