Over-the-counter ketoconazole shampoo is usually used every 3 to 4 days for up to 8 weeks after that use it as per the need.

Prescription ketoconazole shampoo is used to treat tinea capitis (scalp) but it has poor efficacy against them while over the counter ketoconazole shampoo is used to prevent and control scaling as well as the itching caused by dandruff.
