Gerfex Dry Syrup Information

Gerfex Dry Syrup is a prescription medicine that is available as a Syrup. It is primarily used for the treatment of Bacterial Infections. Secondary and off-label uses of Gerfex Dry Syrup have also been mentioned below.

The optimal dosage of Gerfex Dry Syrup is largely dependent on the individual's body weight, medical history, gender and age. How does Gerfex work?

Gerfex contains cefalexin which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It works by preventing the cell wall synthesis in bacteria by binding to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins). The cell wall protects the bacteria from the environment, in the absence of this cell wall, the bacteria becomes vulnerable and dies. Gerfex is effective against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
